I'm going to assume you mean Performa 6320. It would be an IDE hard drive.
If it started to boot but then the happy Mac blinked out, you've got a
damaged system folder.

Check that the OS disk has a utility called Drive Setup on it. Make it find
it, but DON'T let it initialize it.
