> Subject: [PCI] OSX very slow on external drive
FROM: "Will" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>

Dear All, I've got OSX onto my 9600 300 at last!

However it's running dog slow! I installed it on my external 4GB LaCie 4GB
harddrive. Could this be the reason? Or does OSX run very slowly on older Macs
anyway.

BTW the Mac has about 200mb of RAM with 10.2.

 Cheers,

Will.

I have a friend with an imac 800MHz (lampshade) and says X is slow. I tell him to get more than his 256MB ram but he does not believe it, he cannot see how this can be so. I don't know if I am right. On yours I would think - if it is not a question of ram (you surely need over 500) - it would be an inherently slow bus speed... What is slow or quick is relative, but 'dog slow' is nicely absolute!

I think we are ignoring the key word here folks " external " . Without further information I conclude that Will has the drive connected
to the slow 25 pin SCSI port
