I don't recall saying anything about external drive connection, but I
think I mention that maybe whomever first posted on here about his
slow OSX booting from external drive to make sure that he's on a
firewire drive and make sure the HD itself is running at 72rpm or
higher (perhaps running with a Serial ATA enclosure or something).

It's pretty easy to recognize whether you have enough RAM or not, just
listen to the HD, because if you don't have enough RAM, your HD will
be going on all the time to swap memory in and out of VM.
