I recall a recommendation from this list to get a *flashabale* PC Radeon 7000 card or clone and flash the firmware (bios in PC speak) for a Mac.
Ebay has some decent prices and the PC versions are definitely cheaper that the Mac cards. I have found clones like Diamond Stealth, Sappire, Power Color even less expensive. Problem is, " ROM flashability" is never mentioned on any of these cards specs. ATI has really fought this practice of flashing PC cards for Macs in the past. I found this in a forum somewhere:
"Not all 7000s are flashable anymore. In response to soo many being flashed I heard that ATI changed the ROM chips on the 7000 to a smaller size. So some are 64k and some are 128k. The Mac ROM is 128k which wont fit on a 64k chip."
How do I know if a card is flashable? And where do I get the correct ROM download to flash such a card for 9500? ATI has ROM v208 updates for updating their Mac version cards. Something tells me that won't work.
Also, will the card word in OS 9.1 or 9.2.2 and OSX 10.2.8?
