It seems most, if not all removable media drives and carts are prone to 
failure, perhaps the Jaz is the exception.  

Removable media is convenient for backups but I would not recommend them for 
a primary backup unless you have multiple drives available in case of a drive 
failure. In addition I would use multiple carts, one for Monday, another for 
Tuesday, ect for each day of the week in case one cart would fail.

With all this said I still have some terribly unreliable SyQuest drives in 
use as secondary backups. I have multiple extra SyQuest drives available in case 
of a drive failure and a many extra carts.

My primary daily backups are to a second internal hard drive and less 
frequently to CD-R media. Your backup plan depends on how important your data is.
