This is getting away from the Jaz drive topic but yes all the old SyQuest drives from the 5 1/4 inch 44/88/200 MB carts to the 3 1/2 inch EZ 135 are still very reliable. I do disk conversions to CD for orphaned carts of this gender. The EZ 230 is a little less reliable. The big problem started with 1.5 GB SyJet where a defective drive could damage a disk and a damaged disk could destroy the drive. A sort of hardware virus problem. I still have a couple of working SyJets and some new SyJet unused carts. The 1 MB SparQ drive is perhaps the worst offender in the SyQuest line. Never had one and don't want one. For a story regarding the EZ 135 durability check out: http://www.geocities.com/glenstrek/syquest_ii.html Yeah, I wrote it. <<Zip drives were primarily a marketing victory over Syquest, not a technological one.>> Yes, definitely. I first saw the Zip drive at MacWorld Expo in Boston. They had a booth very near if not next to SyQuest booth. They had huge banners draping the outside of the exhibition hall. I was not impressed with the Zip and proceeded to buy my first EZ 135. Ironically the next year at the Boston expo I won an EZ 230 (selling for nearly $300 at that time) on a business card drawing at the SyQuest booth. And I could go on with experiences with removable media starting with the Iomega Bernoulli drive connected to an SE with OS 6. Those carts could be dropped from 6 feet to a cement floor with no damage. Ah, too many other experiences.
