No not really I just wanted to look under the hood. Thats how I've gained most my experience with windows and more recently with Linux. I know it shouldnt but my mind reels a bit that there isnt a CLI in OS9. They're just so usefull.

It's a different way of thinking. For the most part, there are tools to do what you need to do. And when yer dyin for that big'old cmd proc, use KeyQuencer or QuicKeys or AppleScript.

I use winXP as my main OS and I still need to use DOS occasionally!

That's 'cause Windows is just an overgrown app that runs over the DOS primatives. :)

For instance I wanted to creat a list of all my albums on an external HD, there are over 900 and i didnt fancy typing it out :-). Instead of downloading
some crap I discovered some simple DOS commands that did it for me.

How would you do something like that in OS9?

To do a few folders: Open the top folder in the Finder (use list view if it's a whole folder tree). Select all (cmd-A), copy the names (cmd-C), switch to your text editing app, and paste (cmd-V).

To "index" a whole HD, with a large tree of folders, a tool like FileBuddy would also be usable.

Since you said albums... These are folders of mp3 files? Apps like iTunes and SoundApp will create savable/printable/etc playlists if you just drag a folder onto them.
