I agree as well, my Agfa Snapscan 1212 has worked great these past 4-5
years.  My brother's 3 year old Agfa has also worked for him flawlessly and
he practically uses it every day.  They're quick, they don't produce as much
noise as some of the other scanners on the market, and the images come out
quite well.  I have a HP scanner at work that's just over a year old and it
produces 3x the noise my Agfa does and seems to take a couple of minutes to
warm up.  

The Agfa Scanwise software for both OS 9 and under and OS X does the job,
but you can't edit with it.  Make sure you have some sort of image editing
program.
