If you install a G3 processor upgrade and install XPostFacto
<http://eshop.macsales.com/OSXCenter/XPostFacto>, it should.  You would
want at least a 3 or a 4GB drive installed, however.  A 1 gigger won't cut
it.

An 8500 should handle a G3 upgrade just fine.  Before I upgraded to a 9600,
I had a 7500/100 with a Newer Technologies MaxPowrG3 300MHz upgrade
installed.  Worked fine.  Some apps under MacOS 9.2.2 did become a bit
buggier than before, but, otherwise, I liked the performance boost.  When I
purchased my 9600, I transferred the memory, hard drives, PCI cards, and
the processor over.  Seems less buggy.  Performance-wise, not much
difference, except in the video department, even though I'm using the same
video card.  You might want to add some more RAM to your 8500 for the X
upgrade, just to provide an extra pad.  It says it'll run on a machine with
128MB, but, it's happer with at least 256...
