That's good to hear... >The PM 8500/120 will run up to OS 9.1, according to Apple's web site. >However, I've heard otherwise that with a G3/G4/G5 processor upgrade and >some kind of software hack, OS X will install and run on it. You would want at least a 3 or a 4GB drive installed, however. A 1 gigger won't cut it. >So, my question is, how well do 8500's take G-series upgrades, and what >are the minimum requirements for OS X? An 8500 should handle a G3 upgrade just fine. Before I upgraded to a 9600, I had a 7500/100 with a Newer Technologies MaxPowrG3 300MHz upgrade installed. Worked fine. Some apps under MacOS 9.2.2 did become a bit buggier than before, but, otherwise, I liked the performance boost. When I purchased my 9600, I transferred the memory, hard drives, PCI cards, and the processor over. Seems less buggy. Performance-wise, not much difference, except in the video department, even though I'm using the same video card. You might want to add some more RAM to your 8500 for the X upgrade, just to provide an extra pad. It says it'll run on a machine with 128MB, but, it's happer with at least 256... >-- >Colin > -John PowerMac 9600 G3/300 304/3GB/1GB/12xCD, running MacOS 9.2.2 Quadra 950 64/1.2GB/4xCD, running 7.5.3 Apple ][+ 64k dual floppy, running DOS 3.3 Duvall, WA, USA -- PCI-PowerMacs is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> and...
