In general, I recommend leaving /300 or higher 8600s and 9600s alone.

My PCC Power Tower Pro /225s have been great machines, and I strongly 
recommend them.

One is running 9.1 and has both USB and Firewire cards, and a CD-R/W, and 
is what I use to service the various media devices I own, including two 
so-called "Pro-sumer" SLR-type 12 MP digicams.
