I am now using ACARD SCSIDE "bridge" cards in my SCSI Macs (including
PTP), thereby obviating the need for PCI EIDE/UATA cards, many of which
are very DVD and CD unfriendly (their makers never said that they were
good for anything besides hard drives, anyway).

The latest firmware will support 48-bit LBA, and I have a 250 GB Maxtor
drive in one machine.

Also, the DVD/CD emulation is good, and I have an EIDE DVD-ROM-R-R/RW
drive in another machine, also using a "bridge". DVD playing has been
flawless; CD writing has been flawless. Haven't tried DVD burning.

The only negative is one "bridge" is required per physical drive
connected to the SCSI bus.

These "bridge" cards are available in 3.5" and 5.25" form factor, and in
UW and F SCSI, as well as LVD/SE.

I am using these with an LVD/SE controller in a Beige, not only for the
blazing performance, but also for the 48-bit LBA capability.
