I'd also like some clarification on this subject as I've found myself suddenly the subject of a family trade along and I'm giving away my upgraded 7500 running OS 9.1 (all with latest upgrades) for a B&W G3 running OS 9.2. Until seeing this query I'd thought anything above 9.1 was only the version of classic given with OS X so I am a little concerned about a trouble free transfer of my data. By default I'll also be moving from external dial up modem to internal dial up modem in the G3.
What's critical to me about the change is a smooth upgrade to the G3 especially in retaining my internet access so I am wondering what the access related control panels and extensions. Mine are currently:
Unless you've been doing an All-Mac custom install and updates of OS 9 on your 7500, you're missing a LOT of the OS - hardware support for stuff in the G3 box, etc. So it's best to start with a nice clean installation of OS 9, done *on* the new B&W G3. Turning on AppleTalk and TCP/IP and such is trivial.
