[PCI] ATA/IDE PCI Cards

I am considering getting an ATA/IDE PCI card for my PM8600/G3 in 
order to install a larger hard drive.  When I am looking at PCI 
cards, does it matter if the card is designated for Windows or Mac? 
Do these cards require separate drivers to operate or will the 
computer automatically recognize them?

Aside from installing a USB card some years ago, I haven't dealt with 
PCI cards a whole lot.
