I don't think it's a total PSU voltage issue. More that the PCI slots
need a specific voltage the 52xx and similar infrared Macs don't have
fed to the board plug but as you said it works and I haven't been able
to make one fry anything yet.

I have even installed a PCI video card in the LC580/5500/225 of mine
and it worked fine but who knows for how long, I pulled it for another
project. An ethernet card would be far more forgiving to the voltage
needs than a Video card.

I have put 5500 boards in 52xx, 62xx, 63xx and an LC 580 with good
results but keep the PCI slots empty just in case. My LC5500/225 has a
PCI USB card in it and it works fine also so who knows.
Something to keep in mind in case it acts up later.

It will be like a new Mac, my LC580 went from 33MHz to 225MHz and that
made it usable again. There is a board swap tutorial with pics on my
web page listed below, just click the Project black Mac. It's for a
LC580 but the infrared Macs are all the same basically.
