It's been warned that turning on external SCSI devices
can send a power surge through the chain damaging a
component.  My advice:  Get yourself a stack of
post-it notes and put one on the monitor with the
words, 

"SCSI first, why? Because we hate buying replacement
parts." 

or maybe: 

"If you don't know how to properly boot up this
