This is a good example of where a ram disk could be useful. I have spare memory (why do I always remind everyone of this? Because of a deprived childhood on an SE) and thought to speed up things in PS with one once. I use PS and Illustrator a lot for my work and often work with very big files. I do a lot of manipulations. But I could not find a ram disk useful when I tried. There may have been some speed increase in some operations, sure. But the reality is this: when one is working on a project, there are a lot of things to think about and do. You do not have to stop thinking and doing things to progress the project because something is happening that takes 30 seconds. There are so many things to do that it would not help much if it took 5 seconds. In fact, the 30 sec is better, because you then have time to do something else usefully, 5 sec might be too little and then you *are* waiting on the machine. BTW, this is why I *like* my 7600 generally with its often mentioned "limitations". I honestly do not think I would be that much more productive with a G9. At least in my case, I like the way it paces you. But things may be different for all you other fast young hotheads out there... :) David Elmo -- PCI-PowerMacs is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> and...
