Actually if I plug in the phone line to my modem before by desktop backround prefrence is loaded and OS is loading up, and listen on a telephone, I can hear the "click" of the modem connecting. Sounds to me like a hardware problem and not a software one. But I can live with this little glitch since I'm not going to use the computer for any daily use.
