Could be the wrong adapter or the monitor is hosed.

The one I bought came with a VGA adapter with no dip switches for Mac's like
the 7600.

4 MB VRAM should give you a 1024 x 768 resolution with millions of colors at
65-80 MHz according to the owners manual. The owners manual also says "[if]
you able to access only the 640 x480 resolution setting, you will need to turn
off the DDC control to access the rest of the settings. This applies to the"
9500 series" which I suspect includes the 7600.

Perhaps you can find the download for owners manual from the Apple site. I'm
not in front of the Studio Display at this time so really can't describe how
to access the DDC control and the manual is very limited in this description.

Your are talking about the old Apple Studio Display with VGA connector and
look somewhat like the first iMac's?

Thanks for the answers,

I have an old mac adapter that gives that low resolution 640 - 480 at 57 mhz and proves that the screen works, I also have a 8 switch adaptor and I tried this night all the settings on that adapter that are suggested on the adaptor cover, none of them lights up the screen, I do not know if that particular adapter is ok, cause I did not try it with any other screen, and no the display does not look like the first bondi iMacs, a bit later it has OS X like aqua pattern on the front, and is grey and black or slightly deep blue, it says apple studio display on the back and then some small prints that is quite hard to read -:((.It stands on a tree leg plastic.
