I yanked Norton 3.5 FileSaver out. Won't use it again (advice of several
listers).

1-16MB RAM chip was not fully seated - was reason for ASP showing A3 slot
empty! I thought I had 192MB total in 8 slots, and now I do- not prev. 176MB.
(partial seating prob. is worse than an empty slot - messes up RAM pkg, etc?
They have a tendency to unseat, with all the handling of m/b, re-assembling).

They are now interleaved as suggested above. Wasn't sure about that, before.

Other contacts & connections seemed okay - and HDD was terminated - it now
is recognized by ASP as the start-up drive AND starts up first try, no
restarts!

While the 8500 box was open, I popped the orig. L2 cache back into it's slot,
closed box up, and it 'acted crazy' - no screen, then just icon, but nothing
else.
Went back in, pulled it out again > so L2 chip can't be used with Sonnet
pr.card.

PRAM battery lights up a small bulb, gave it a little charge and it seems good
even though it is dated 8/02, by UK mfr. My PM8500/Sonnet300 "sings again"!

I was really close to giving up on the 8500, and going back to my non-PCI 6100
but I'm glad I hung in, 'til I found the problem(s). To 'helpers' on the list,
Thanks!

'tis a happy new year, finally! Jim Kilponen
