The easiest solution here is DAVE by Thursby Software <http://www.thursby.com/products/dave-eval.html>. It ain't cheap by any means, but it is very good at what it does. It runs on the Mac and allows the Mac to share printers and files with Windows machines, and access files and printers on Windows machines. The only limitation is that DAVE can only access PostScript printers on Windows machines, however, Windows machines can access any printer on the Mac side. There are various Windows programs that basically do the same thing, but I haven't had any experience with them.
If you're feeling adventurous you can try Netatalk for Linux/Unix. It allows you to share files and printers over AppleTalk on a Linux system, but not, as far as I can tell, access other AppleTalk shares. One approach would be to get a cheap old PC system, install Linux, Netatalk and Samba (Windows file sharing), and use it as a common file server between the two systems. It can be cheap or free, but is definitely not an easy option unless you've done it a few times before. I use both systems and they do their job well, but DAVE is a lot easier to use for a novice, and if it weren't for the price, would win hands down. -- PCI-PowerMacs is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> and...
