Hey folks, I recently purchased a Lexmark Z515 USB printer because
it said
that it would work with OS 9.1. Low and behold, I set up the
printer, pop
in the driver CD and that's when I find out that oops, only OS X is
supported. Going to the Lexmark site, it seems they have OS 9
drivers for
every other printer they make EXCEPT the Z515! I've tried Googling
for
drivers but keep getting links to other frustrated Z515 owners with
the same
problem. Anyone out there know of where I can get the Z515 drivers
that
will work in OS 9? Are there Z510 drivers for OS 9 that will
work? If
there are no actual OS 9 drivers for this printer, is there a work
around
(besides going the OS X route =P ) i.e. using drivers for other
printers?
Thanks in advance!
I hope you still have the receipt for the printer. Take it back and
buy an Epson. Lexmark ink will cost you more than the printer each
time you get refills. As far as I know there are no knock off
replacements for them. When it comes to Epson there are usually 3rd
party inks available shortly after a printer is created. There is no
shortage of 3rd party ink available at either most stores or even on
ebay. I prefer Epson for my printing needs and have had nothing but
excellent luck with them.
The same sort of thing happened when I bought an APC UPS (battery
back up and surge protector). It stated on the box it was OS 9
compatible, but the disk on the inside had the drivers for OS X only.
Luckily I only use it on my G4 Quicksilver and don't need the OS 9
drivers. Must be some sort of brain fart that non-Mac people
experience when they write the proofs for labels etc. If you were
close by, I would offer one of my many Epson printers that I have
waiting for good homes (my homeless PCI and G3 Macs). Depending on
the model of printer and computer, you might need the 8 pin serial
cable, but they were only needed on older Macs that couldn't use USB.
Serial connectors were available on Epson SC 900's and previous
models. IMHO the 900 (USB & Serial) and the 980 (USB only) were the
best printers Epson ever made!
