Go ahead, but perhaps edit the PCRE version to 8.35-RC1. We haven't
heard any immediate shouts for bugs in 8.34 (and we know people are
using it) so I guess it's OK to move forwards.

Thanks! I also have several followup patches, since this new approach created
new optimization opportunities.

I know that this change make no difference in my port and I agree that such a
massive change would require a new version number (despite the prior
anticipation that 8.34 would be the last 8.xx version.)  However, I'd rather
have my version bare the same number as the latest version.  My port is not too
popular, so I could skip a version, but do you think that there would be the
customary 6 months between 8.34 and 8.35 in light of Zoltan's ideas or would
8.35 come pretty soon.

I guess that this question is for both Philip and Zoltan.

Happy holidays
