I am hoping to get back to working on the new API proposal soon ... 
there were a number of useful comments, but we got sidetracked into 
thinking about performance improvements. I guess the new API project is 
going to slide a bit more into the future than originally anticipated.

I currently have only a small number of issues to deal with; we could 
perhaps think about a new release in less than 6 months, but I know that 
Zoltán has ideas about yet more performance improvements.
