You probably have the Windows Critical Update Notification installed. This
piece of software causes lots of problems. I suggest you remove it and then
disable it in the update notification.
How to uninstall Critical Upate Notification 3.0
1. Click the Start button, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
2. Double-click Add/Remove Programs.
3. Select Windows Critical Update Notification.
4. Click Add/Remove (Change/Remove in Windows 2000).
Note Critical Update Notification cannot be uninstalled while it is running.
Personalize your Windows Update
1. Select Start, and click Windows Update
2. Click Product Updates
3. Click on Personalize
4. Uncheck Windows Critical Update Notification 3.0
4. Click on Update
Now you will have to check for updates by yourself. I normally check each
Sunday just before I do my weekly backups.
