I am running Windows 98 With OE 5.5
I have Norton installed but only for full time background scan etc. No
maintanence. No influence on my recycle bin. Everything was working fine.
I downloaded and ran "Cleanup" from a yahoo/egroups site.

Icon Appearance on desktop is that of a hand holding a yellow cloth
You simply click on the icon and then it starts to clean.
I could hear the sounds of flushing (as in toilet) etc etc.
I could also note my desk top recycle bin being emptied at the end of this
cycle.
Now I no longer can see items in my recycle bin...they just delete and are
gone. I have gone into the properties and made sure that there is *no* check
mark in the do not remove files to the recycle bin.
I am at a loss to know what to do as it is not convenient to have things
vanish with no backup nor second chance..Needless to say, I have only used
this once and do not intend to try again.
How can I get the recycle bin contents to stay there till I empty it?
