In the wee hour of 01:13 PM 5/18/01 -0700, Bob LeRoy bequeathed such tales
as these:
>A week ago I installed Microsoft Works 6.0 that included an update to
>version 5.5 of Outlook Express. Since that time my computer has acted very
>slow (about 4 to 5 seconds) opening files, closing files, deleting files in
>the general computer and in Outlook Express. Before the installation, I
>seemed to have immediate response. I have checked my resources and they
>are in the green (about 50%) and my free RAM is in the 40 to 80 Mb range of
>the 192 Mb installed RAM.
>
>Questions:
> Could it be Outlook Express Version 5.5?
> Could it be Microsoft Works Version 6.0?
> Could it just be a coincidence?
>
>I was going to delete/uninstall Works 6.0, but first wanted to see if any

If the update to OE was to version 6, then yes I suspect it would slow your
system. If you Ctrl-Alt-Del you can see what applications are running,
also if you go to Start/Run and type in Msconfig you can see what is
running from startup. Go to Start/Programs/Startup to see if MSWorks has
added any features to your startup as well. Is Find Fast running in the
background. If you have 40 to 80 mb free ram then something is really
hogging your resources especially with 192 mb installed. I have 128 mb
installed and generally have half of that free with my email and a browser
window open.
