Normal installations of Win98 will also include converting the drive to a FAT32 format. If you have this, YOU SHOULD NOT use compression. It is not compatible and will result in corrupt files. I had my Win95 compressed and when I switched to Win98, it also stated that it could not convert to FAT32 with the drive compressed. It wasn't too much after that I purchased a new machine with a new hard drive and that was already at FAT32. When I placed my old drive in my Kanguru external drive bay, it noted that it was a compressed drive and I would have to uncompress it before I could reformat it. Apparently, your drive D is a FAT16 drive and could compress. Check to see if C is the FAT32 and this would explain why you are having difficulty.
