how old is your computer? If it's fairly old and you have never defragged
before, this would explain why it takes so long....basically what defrag
does in a nutshell is this:
when you delete stuff or uninstall programs or move stuff around, the spaces
on your hard drive where this stuff was don't get filled back in.....so
whenever your hard drive has to search for something, it has to search your
whoooole hard drive, which takes a lot of time and puts a lot of wear and
tear on the ol' hard drive......when you defragment, all of your stuff is
moved together on your drive so searching is much faster.......so, the
bottom line is defragging speeds up your computer and increases it's
performance
I would recommend you turn off your screensaver some nite before you go to
bed and shutdown any programs that are running, turn on the defragger and go
to bed....when you get up in the morning it will be done and your computer
will be much happier :-)

What's the function of defragging your system? I finally attempted to do
that with my Windows98 program and after running more than an hour, the
progress bar fluctuated between 0-2% complete. At that point, I interrupted
it. I know it's probably silly, but I've never run this program before.
Any suggestions for getting it to run faster? How long should I expect it
to
take? I have only 32MB ram.
