If the 2 D-link nic's are the same, you need a 'crossover' cable to be
able to see both computers. This can be purchased from any decent computer
store. You only need a hub if you add another PC or other network device
(printer,router,etc.). If you need to make it yourself, contact me off list
and I'll send you a diagram.
I don't know about the combo card you referred to without more info, but
it sounds like you don't need it now anyway.
All you should have to do is install NetBEUI and file sharing on each
and share the resources you want shared(drives,internet connections, etc.).
