Well folks, all this hype about WinXP being so great, still needs
a new set of BRAINS so it will be as smart as WinMe and 98.
Am I interested in upgrading to WindowsXP Professional, you ask?
Not until there's an upgrade that will work and not throw all this
kind of garbage at us about having to go to the trouble of doing
all the look-up for upgrades. WindowsMe will do me just fine.
I have upgraded to every version of Windows, and have never
seen such a mess of problems as listed below.

(that is, they do not work with) Windows XP. Contact your software
vendors to obtain updates or Windows XP-compatible versions. If you
don't update these programs before you upgrade, the programs will not
work after the upgrade is completed.

    3dfx Tools (in Control Panel)
    PaperPort OneTouch (in Control Panel)
    RAM Idle (on the Start menu)
    System Information (in Control Panel)
    Xteq X-Setup (in Control Panel)
    ZipMagic (in Control Panel)

Before you upgrade to Windows XP, you should remove any incompatible
programs if you can. After the upgrade, uninstall for these programs
might not work. Add/Remove Programs in Control Panel can help you
uninstall most programs. Click Start, point to Settings, click
Control Panel, and then click Add/Remove Programs.


IntelliType Pro 1.x
    This version of Microsoft IntelliType Pro software is not
    supported on this operating system. For information about an
    updated, compatible version of IntelliType Pro software, see the
    Microsoft Keyboard Web site.

SiSoft Sandra 2001te Standard
    This program may have compatibility issues on this version of
    Windows.


Software That Must Be Reinstalled

The following programs need to be reinstalled after the upgrade,
because they use different files and settings in Windows XP.

Settings That Will Not Be Upgraded
----------------------------------
Some of your settings will not be upgraded, because they aren't
applicable in Windows XP.

Network Connection Protocol
  NetBEUI

    Support for the NETBEUI protocol is not available in Windows XP.
    For networks using NETBEUI, install TCP/IP on all machines or
    devices to maintain network connectivity.

Software Incompatible with Windows XP

Software That Might Not Support Windows XP

Setup cannot determine if the following programs are compatible with
Windows XP. Setup will disable them during the upgrade to eliminate
the risk of problems. Contact the software vendor to obtain an
upgrade pack.

Notes About Your Other Software

This section describes issues that might affect other software you
use. Be sure to read this section before you begin the upgrade to
Windows XP.

Microsoft Outlook 2000

    After Windows XP Setup is complete, you have to reinstall
    Microsoft Outlook 2000. To do this, start Outlook. If Outlook
    2000 is part of your Startup folder, reinstallation will
    automatically begin the first time you log on to Windows XP.
    Reinstallation takes a while, and the progress bar restarts
    several times.

General Information
-------------------
This section provides important information that you need to be aware
of before you upgrade.

Recycle Bin

    Setup found 71 files in your Recycle Bin. If you continue
    upgrading to Windows XP, these files will be deleted.

Other Upgrade Information
-------------------------

DVD Movie Player

    Windows detected a DVD movie player or decoder that may be
    incompatible.  You may have to upgrade the decoder after setup
    completes.
