As I recall, the swap file for Windows 3.1 was manually set.  The first
would be to answer yes to removal of the corrupt swapfile. The second
would be go to the control panel and choose the enhanced icon as it
says, and reset the virtual (swap) file.  I think that you have to use
the change button to get to the point where you can specify the file
size.  I also seem to recall that it will suggest the size of the file. 
For the time being, use that suggested size.  I used to tweak my swap
file when I was running Win 3.1, but then I was also using a memory
manager like Quarterdeck.  As such, I use custom sizes in the swap.  For
a standard machine, the default should be just fine.
