Jeff and all,

Thanks for your reply. I decided, with someone's advice at work, to simply
reinstall the entire Windows98 CD. That did the trick. I had discovered
prior to doing so that anything I clicked on in control panel gave me that
same message about the "rundll32.exe", not just the 'display' icon. Now
everything is working as it should.

My only problem now is that the screensaver runs for a while and then I get
a totally black screen. When I disengage the screensaver by touching my
touchpad, everything on the desktop is faded out. Could this be the result
of not using a screensaver for a while? (a matter of a couple of days..)
What can I do about this? Is my screen going bad? I have a Dell Inspiron
7000 laptop, a couple of years old.

Again, tia,
Cindy

Cindy,
Have you searched your hard drive for that file?
It may be missing or damaged.
Go to run, type SFC
Select to extract one file and type that rundll32.exe.
You will need your WIN CD, unless your install files are in CABS on your
hard drive.
