I've compressed many drives without any problems. He should also consider
removing files and programs that are not needed. Be sure to scan and defrag
before begining the compression process, which can take a very long time. It
would be prudent to do a complete backup before beginning, but I confess
that I never do.
MSCONFIG will work in Win95, but must be added. It is available at:

This is an excellent site for Downloads and PC info.

Today, I was visiting my EX.. and he has a Pentium I - and only has
: Windows 95 on it.. He's going to buy a new computer, (at some point) but
: right now, needs extra space.
: When going to check on what he has left - in space, there was something
: saying, he could "compress the drive" and gain ALOT of space.. Any
: thoughts on doing that..??
:
: Also, he has too many things, just to the left of his clock, (running in
: start up).so I typed in MSCONFIG. and it didnt' register, I think in
: Windows 95, there is something else to be typed in.?? Can you help.. and
: this way, he can clean up his computer,(as his resources were at 48%
: when starting, before he was even on line. He had things like, Real
: Player, and all sorts of things, that needn't be there.
