Pcworkers one and all -- I need your help once again!

P166, Micronics Motherboard (1977 vintage), Award Bios, 128 MB RAM,(OS Win98)
I'm having increasing problems with boot-up and wonder whether my
motherboard isn't on its way out. Here are some of the things that have been
happening off and on over the past couple of months, and now occurring at
every attempt to boot up:

Complete Memory failure on boot-up, or only half the memory (65MB)
registers. I've cleaned the connectors, which did the trick for a while, but
no longer.

Floppy drive fail, either at boot-up or later. I've removed the drive and
tested it in another machine where it works perfectly. Also tested the
ribbon cable and connections.

I sometimes get an "out of range" message on the monitor, or else the screen
is completely blank. Even after successful boot into Win98, screen
resolution and refresh rates are appalling.

Various messages at boot-up such as: Hard Disk initializing, please wait a
moment (then nothing happens at all)
Bios ROM checksum error

Even after successful boot-up, all sound is disabled.

With perseverance and a lot of pushing around of connections in the box, I
occasionally manage to boot my system. The case has to lie on its side,
open, otherwise I have no success at all!! I don't like to leave the machine
permanently switched on, as I'm out at work all day and there's no-one else
at home!

With my limited experience, I assume all these problems stem from faulty
connections in the motherboard. Any ideas and/or suggestions
from the experts?? Or should I invest in a new computer? :-(
