Ann,
There is an option, in your sound files, for new mail.
Go to your control panel, click sounds.
Scroll down to 'new mail notification' and you can change the sound there.
To verify this, just open OE, click to send and receive..if new mail is
received and you hear the gun shots, this is what it is...or you live in a
really bad neighborhood.
