I can't speak for DirectTV, but as far as BellSouth goes,
they have the worse support in the history of the internet.
If you call, they will never answer the phone. If you email
them, they MIGHT answer email after about 2 weeks, then reply
with a scripted template email telling you to call them, or
to "check your settings". They blame all problems on your
computer.

DSL is more desirable than cable because cable will slow down
tremendously during the day, and prime time hours, even to
that of a 56k dial up modem! They claim DSL will not...that
is not true, but it is MUCH more consistent than cable
comparing peak hours to late night hours. Cable speeds will
also suffer when everyone on your block gets one, DSL will
not. I can personally attest to these matters above. I
can't say for DirectTV, but with DSL you can do many tweaks
to your PC to more than double it's bandwidth throughput &
download speeds. Try and stay away from a USB DSL modem and
get an internal PCI or Ethernet external.

Subject: PCWorks: Fast Access Choices

Hi Group!

I have been looking at going to a faster internet access and
specifically am
considering DSL--either through Bellsouth or DirecTV. Do any
of you have
any suggestions/opinions you would like to share with me, or
even another
route to take? I can't get cable where I am so that is out
of the question
from the get-go.

Thanks in advance for your input!

Cindy
