Ah, another history lesson... Way back in the "old" days when PCs first began to have hard drives (March 8, 1983 IBM PC/XT), the selection of hard drives in BIOS's was determined by preprogrammed values from 1 to 45 drive types (These were for the very first drives from 10MB to about 40MB in size). BIOS makers provided for these and added a option for "User Defined" which for AMI BIOSes (and most other makers) was drive type 47. So, all hard drives since have been "Generic IDE Drive Type 47".
