To update anyone that may have this problem in the future, the key word h= ere is XP. I had upgraded to XP and decided to return to ME because of numero= us conflicts. In doing this, two things appeared to happen. I lost my Java=20 Runtime Environment and my security settings were changed from medium to custom. One of the comments from PC works was to check or change my setti= ngs on security, which I did. In the interval I attempted to download service pack 2 as was suggested by HTH. Microsoft informed me that I was attempti= ng to install an earlier version than already installed on my machine and wo= uld shut down.
