I had a problem with a spammer and reported them back to the hosting site.
The hosting site sent out an apology letter like:
<quote>
Dear Internet User,

We would like to sincerely apologize for an unsolicited e-mail you may have
received from a user on our network. The offending e-mail entitled "This
really worked for me, $$$ try, it's very easy" was sent by one of our users
two days ago.

At Simonweb.com we do not support nor condone the use of unsolicited e-mail
as a means of advertising. Any web hosting client of ours who is found to
be taking part in the distribution of unsolicited e-mail is subject to
account cancellation without notice. We have removed this user's account
and we will destroy all e-mail lists associated with this user immediately.
Rest assured that you will no longer receive this message from our network.

<unquote>

Now the bad part about this message is that this also looks like spam. It's
not addressed to me personally (Dear Internet User) but it was sent direct
to my email address (not the cc or bcc lines). I have a spam filter that
trapped this message but didn't delete it.

Well guess what? More people than me also had a problem with this posting
and the poor owner of the site put this note on his web page:
<quote>
Notice to users. We have received quite a bit of flack for the e-mail we
sent out today in apology for a spammer on our network. In retrospect,
perhaps we should have just not said anything to anyone as now we are
receiving some pretty hateful mail.
[snip remainder]
<unquote>

It's true, don't contribute to the spam problem by sending more e-mail.
This also includes "fake" bounces.
