PCworkers,

I know Marlene doesn't like alerts but this one is serious, especially for
new XP users.

Security Flaw Compromises Windows XP
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/articles/A10033-2001Dec20.html

Who should read this bulletin:
Customers using Microsoft Windows ME or XP, or who have installed the
Windows XP Internet Connection Sharing client on Windows 98 or 98SE.

Impact of vulnerability:
Run code of attacker's choice.

The bad news is that Microsoft isn't sure when it will be able to offer an
alert or the software patch through the automatic system. So you need to go
here:
http://www.microsoft.com/technet/treeview/default.asp?url=/technet/security/
bulletin/MS01-059.asp

On a related vein, there is another serious security flaw in IE (reported
13Dec01) that somehow Marlene missed sending to this list.
Who should read this bulletin: Customers using Microsoft Internet Explorer.
Impact of vulnerability: Run code of attacker's choice.

Patch is here
