Unfortunately, the only way to reduce the number of rows and columns is
to delete them manually.  Seems that when it opens, it opens with the
maximum which then reserves space if one should ever go that big.  I
just ignore those double letter and thousands of rows and do my thing. 
I do name the range that I build so if I do end up somewhere else, I can
quickly go to the working area.  If I always start in the upper left, a
simple home or Ctl Home will take you to that corner.
