Pat......as far as I know, there's no way to change it.....unless you want
to rewrite the programming in the software

and don't upgrade to a later version of excel cuz the later versions give
you over 65,000 rows

why do you want to change it anyway?  if you don't use the rows and columns,
it's not like they are taking up space on your hard drive or anything

I am using EXCEL for Windows 95, (yes still) Version 7.0a.
A new worksheet opens with 16384 rows and 256 columns.
Only the "World Bank" needs this kind of default.
How do I reset the default to something more reasonable?
Remember you're advising someone who still loves SUPERCALC v5.00a.
