Carol, I can't comment on XP or Win 2K, but overall, my WinME ran really well for about 15 months before this problem arose. Now that problem is fixed, it seems as good - and stable - as ever. Others can advise the pros and cons of a newer O/S, but ME is (I believe) the last O/S which will give you access to true DOS (with a little outside help) if that is important to you. I like the option.
