Robert, As far as the issue with the speed of the processor, one thing you want to check is the maximum speed that your motherboard BIOS can handle - if you try to install a processor that exceeds the maximum speed, you can get problems of various kinds such as you have gotten. If this proves to be the issue, then check to see if the BIOS can be upgraded by checking with the manufactures web site or calling the tech support department, and find out what you need to do - in some cases, you can "flash" the bios to upgrade it to a newer level.
With regard to the heat sink, there is various glues that you can use to glue the heat sink to the processor itself. They are specially made to prevent electrical conductivity between the fan and processor BUT do a great job of conducting heat away from the processor to a heat sink and fan. These glues are generally available from electronic/electrical supply shops. If you do a search on the web, use "heat conductivity paste", "heat conductivity glue", or similar search criteria, to find who sells them these days. Ralph I have a P3 computer sys with a 733 cpu. I have try upgrading the computer to 933 and 1 gig. I get the same error on boot up. BPS CPU microcode bad with the these in computer and the computer will not boot. With the 733 in I get this message BPS CPU microcode ok and the computer will go ahea and boot. What could be the problem? Second question on a second motherboard I broke the little clip on the cpu socket so I can not clip the fan down. Is there anyway to glue the heat sink to the cpu?
