Howdy, Maybe it was here, or from surfing the Net, but I once came across this trick: Tweaking the Registry so it ignores screen saver when doing a defrag (and you're too lazy go six clicks to disable screensaver).
1. In the Registry, navigate to: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Applets\Defrag\Settings. 2. Now, you'll see a list of four important subkeys: Disable loadqm.exe Disable loadwc.exe Disable ScreenSaver Disable Wkdetect.exe. 3. Double- click each of those entries' (Default) values and set them to "YES" (in the right-hand pane). 4. In the same Applets hierarchy, scroll down the list until you see the Scandisk key. Continue to cascade through to its Settings key and you'll find: Disable loadqm.exe Disable loadwc.exe Disable ScreenSaver. 5 Do the same thing here as you did for the Defrag key. NOTE: this will only suspend operation of those utilities while Defrag or Scandisk are being run. Note: In my registry, there is no defrag key in step 2 and no scandisk key in step 4. Question: Are the above steps incorrect or is there something wrong with my registry? Harold B. ============= PCWorks Mailing List ================= Don't see your post?
