Start -- Find -- Files or Folders
1. First try by Name; enter your grandson's name and Look in C:
2. Next try by Containing Text; type something your know was in the file.

Probably was stored in MyDocuments if you used Notepad default Save
Start -- Documents -- MyDocuments

Might also look in the Recycle bin to see if you accidently erased it. If it
is not permanently removed you can restore the file.

You might also try a program like Back2Life or undelete
http://altnet.ru/~almk/Back2Life/

Undelete is a MS-DOS program so you would need to start Windows in MS-DOS mode.
