[Name?] Well, it's not much of a security risk anyway if your computer won't boot, now is it. :) I guess you have a choice; don't install them and have a WORKING PC (that may not be 'totally' secure), or install them and HAVE a totally secure PC, that WON'T boot! Personally, I'd rather have the former, and keep using my hardware and software firewalls, and AV program. It's not a "policy of my choosing", it's a "policy of necessity" since the computers were useless with these specific updates.
>OTOH, if you choose to install every patch (even none critical) at your >*working* PC, you take a certain risk. Well, that's exactly what I was saying hence the purpose of my post. (All the updates I mentioned except for the driver updates WERE "critical" updates). -Clint God Bless Us All Clint Hamilton, Owner http://OrpheusComputing.com ----- Original Message ----- From: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Date: 20.05.02 Sender: [EMAIL PROTECTED] -Clint Hamilton (aka "SCH") Time: 05:41 SCH> The last several patches/updates I installed from the windows SCH> update site (where it SCANS your PC for what is needed) SCH> rendered computers over here USELESS!! By not installing patches (especially, security ones) you leave your computer with few or none defensive tactics against outside attacks. OTOH, if you choose to install every patch (even none critical) at your *working* PC, you take a certain risk. Back in the days when I had windows up and running, I used to install only the *critical* patches and silently ignored all the rest. -------------------------------------- Original message: > I'm posting this in hopes others can avoid some of the BS I > went through with the Windows update site.
