Tom,

Did you ever have any CD recording software installed prevsiously which
handled blank CDs, which now no longer exists on your system??? If you
did, it might have left some info in the registry that would tell Windows
to try and open that software if the OS detected a blank CD in the CD
drive - since the software no longer exists, windows effectively hangs in
trying to load the non-existent software to handle the blank CD.

Since I have seen the TDK drive in the past, it used to come with a
version of Adaptec/Roxio EZ and Direct CD software, with the Direct
software getting loaded when windows boots. Since this program can most
definitely leave info in the registry in many cases if it is removed from
the system, this could be a source of the problem. Since I dont know if
you have had the program loaded in the past on your system, it may not be
the source of the issue at all, but is a possible source of trouble.

Similiar type issues can show up with other items on the computer, whether
hardware and/or software, due to software that existed in the past on the
system, but no longer is installed and available.

Ralph

Sorry, Windows 98 SE. Software isn't important because I can
be on the desktop with nothing running and as soon as I put a
CDRW in the drive it locks up.
