Ed,
OK, take this scenario. In a couple of years I am still chugging away
happily with my W98SE and have the system humming. Then, bingo, I lose
some hardware (all hardware comes and all hardware goes). I hope I will be
able to replace it with something that works because I won't expect
re-sellers to hold onto things that are now outdated. Of course, there is
always the pre-owned market, but . . . Then how about various web-sites
which will be adapting software now (in a climate of extreme competition)
with new software for accessing, navigating their site. Will my IE 6.1
still be able to go there. I really don't know - it all remains to be
seen, but it seems to me I will keep the thought in the back of my
head. Not that I am opposed to "progress" or new tech, but I would like a
good semblance of backward compatibility and replacement parts. :) How
about the folks who are happy with their 486s - I have a good friend who
still works well with a 386, but Lord help him when he needs a MB
replacement or some such thing cause then he is looking a a whole new
system and his accounting system is still DOS based.

I am not faulting Microsoft, or Apple or Sun Systems, or Intel or anyone
else as they are in a verrry competitive business and need to keep pushing
the envelope.

I am tired of "upgrading" all the time and don't need any more Ghz on my
CPU. Not to say others do need a few more Ghz! :)

Best regards,
Roger Williams

Back to reality now where exactly did I PUT it?
