Here's what I would do to trouble shoot this and possibly fix the problem.
First I would go in through safe mode and remove the video card drivers and
any duplicates of the drivers. Then I would re-start through normal mode and
install the updated drivers from the manufacture not windows XP. Then set
the screen resolution to what you want and re-start the computer. If it
still does not hold the settings then I would replace the video card or
borrow a monitor and replace the monitor and see if that fixes the problem.
I believe the problem is your video card software. If you are using the xp
default drivers this could be the problem..rich
